The History Locavore
The New Oxford American Dictionary has proclaimed that the 2007 Word of the Year is locavore.

Just what is a locavore?

The locavore movement encourages consumers to buy from farmers' markets, arguing that local products are more nutritious and taste better. Seasonally available foods can be bought and prepared without the need for extra preservatives. So they're better for you.

Supermarkets get their produce from all over the world, requiring more fuel for transportation, and consequently polluting our air. The locavore is an environmentally conscious person who reaps the benefits of what local farmers produce. Eat better food, support local farmers, save the earth, all at the same time. What a concept.

The locavore realizes that there is a wonderful supply of produce grown by nearby farmers. It's fresh. It's ripe. There's no preservatives. And the flavor is without comparison.

Becoming a locavore is easy. You simply stop by your favorite farm market (in this case, it's Ed and Debbie Closson's Homestead Farm Market) and purchase fresh, flavorful fruits and vegetables to eat raw, or include in your favorite recipes.

There's nothing like fresh vegetables for taste and nutrition. And there's nothing like buying locally-grown produce to help support our local farmers. Here are some of our local farmers:
